The Newspaper in Education program is a free service from The Press Enterprise

1. Every week have the students check the job listings and put a red X through those jobs that could not be filled by a high school dropout. Put a black X through those that could be filled by a person with technical school or college training. Discuss their findings.

2. Have students check the salary levels for unskilled workers in the newspaper want ads. Compare the salaries to those of skilled laborers or professional positions. Discuss the differences and the reasons for those differences.

3. Have a discussion of employment trends and demands in your community based on the Help Wanted section of the classified ads and relate any articles
