CHARLES E. THOMPSON, 41, died Tuesday of colon cancer at his home in Beaumont. Born in Huntington Park, Mr. Thompson lived in Beaumont one year. He previously lived in Corona.
Mr. Thompson was a bulk petroleum driver for Fleet Fuel, a division of Southern California Counties Oil, for seven years.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Bryant of Beaumont; a sister, Donna Tondo of Rancho Santa Margarita; a half-sister, Robin Keys of Riverside; his step-grandmother, Anita Hajj of New Hampshire; one niece; four nephews; and many aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. May 31 at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont.
FRED STANLEY HOWELL, 83, died Sunday of cancer at Waterman Convalescent Hospital in San Bernardino. Born in Jerseyville, Ill., Mr. Howell lived in Yucaipa 39 years. He was an aerospace engineer, including work for NASA at Edwards Air Force Base, until he retired from TRW in San Bernardino in 1985.
He graduated from the University of Illinois.
Mr. Howell belonged to the Yucaipa Valley Presbyterian Church and served on its board of elders. He was a member of the Yucaipa Valley Radio Club and the Toastmasters. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces During World War II and went to shore at Guadalcanal behind the first wave of Marines, his family said.
Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Iris; two daughters, Diana of Buena Park and JoAnn Rees of San Jose; and a son, William of Oregon.
Services will be Aug. 23 at Yucaipa Valley Presbyterian Church in Yucaipa. Mt. View Mortuary in San Bernardino is handling arrangements.
MARVIN LEO CLEMENS, 80, died Wednesday at his home in Hemet. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mr. Clemens lived in Hemet 20 years. He was a computer systems analysis for Data Processing Enterprises in Los Angeles for 44 years.
Mr. Clemens served in the U. S. Army from 1943 until 1945.
He is survived by a son, Roger of Reseda; a daughter, Nancy Cataldo of Newport Beach; two stepsons, Barry Reemts of Highland and Michael Reemts of Illinois; two stepdaughters, Susan Byrne of Santa Clarita and Deborah Runzler of Simi Valley; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. June 1 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet is handling arrangements.
SIDNEY ALLAN DARNELL, 56, died Monday of a heart attack at North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City, Ore. Born in Eugene, Ore., Mr. Darnell lived in Hemet 15 years.
He was a barber at various shops in Hemet, and he owned Superior Barber Shop in Banning before he moved to Portland in 2001.
Mr. Darnell is survived by two daughters, Cris Bramble and Virginia "Ginger" Brown, both of Oregon; a son, Nathan Darnell of Riverside; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Omega Funeral Cremation Service in Portland, Ore.
JAMES EDWARD CLARK, 71, died Monday of a heart attack at Stroud Municipal Hospital in Stroud, Okla. Born in Reeds, Mo., Mr. Clark lived in Riverside 25 years.
He served in the U. S. Army for 20 years before he retired as a master sergeant in 1968.
Mr. Clark was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
After his military retirement, he was a surveyor for the city of Riverside for five years.
He received his associate's degree in 1972 from Skadron College in San Bernardino, where he served as student council president.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wandarita; four daughters, Jamie of Riverside, Brenda Aguire of San Jacinto, and Melody Sharp and Danece, both of Perris; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his mother, Irene Walker of Oklahoma; and two sisters, Wanda Finslige and Anita Blackwell, both of Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Riverside National Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 9 p.m. Monday at Acheson Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside. There will be a memorial service in July in Chandler, Okla.

LUCY ELLEN TATE HALPIN, 93, died Monday at Mt. Rubidoux Convalescent Hospital in Rubidoux. Born in Anniston, Ala., Mrs. Halpin had lived in Rubidoux since 1999 and previously lived in Wildomar a total of 28 years. She owned Lake Elsinore Laundry and Dry Cleaners for 15 years before she retired in the late 1960s.
Mrs. Halpin was a member of the Lake Elsinore United Methodist Church and of the Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by a son, Ernest Jr. of Riverside; four grandchildren, including Linda Sheehan of Wildomar and Vicky Galeener of Victorville, whom she raised; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Lake Elsinore. Friends may call at the mortuary from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.
BERNICE ALTA VOGLER, 74, died Wednesday at Agape Home Care in Moreno Valley. A native of New Mexico, Mrs. Vogler lived in Romoland five years. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; a son, Paul D. of Hemet; two daughters, Deniece Sandusky of Vallejo and Gayle Van Vleck of Victorville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Orsola Newton and Louise Sleeper, both of Oregon, and Joy Lancaster of Arizona.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Romoland Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Menifee Valley Memorial Park in Sun City. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet is handling arrangements.
JASMINE LOPEZ, 47, died Sunday at her home in Murrieta. A native of Mexico, Miss Lopez lived in Murrieta 14 years. She was a nutritionist.
She had no known survivors.

FRED H. PETTENGILL, 78, died Thursday at his home in Riverside. Born in Bishop, Mr. Pettengill lived in Riverside County 10 years, most recently in Riverside. He was a butcher for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Randall King of Utah; a son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Beth of Highland; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Plaiss of California.

ARTHUR RUEL MAZAT, 88, died Tuesday at Redlands Healthcare Center. Born in Brooklyn, N. Y., Mr. Mazat lived in Loma Linda 19 years. He was a missionary minister for 43 years for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Silver Spring, Md.
He received a master's degree in theology from Andrews University.
Mr. Mazat belonged to the University Church of Seventh-day Adventists in Loma Linda.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son, Bruce of Oregon; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

ARDIS NICHOLS, 69, died Wednesday at her home in Grand Terrace. Born in Detroit Lakes, Mich., Mrs. Nichols lived in Grand Terrace 25 years.
She was a medical transcriber for 48 years before she retired from Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1999.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by her husband, Glenn of Grand Terrace; a son, David of Riverside; a daughter, Delaine Riojas of Grand Terrace; and four grandchildren.

MARGARET WALTER, 86, died Monday at her home in Mentone. Born in Scotland, Mrs. Walter lived in Mentone 40 years. She was a cafeteria manager for the Redlands Unified School District until she retired.
She is survived by her husband, Lee; a daughter, Jane Gowe of Weaverville; a son, Norman of Redlands; two grandsons, Daniel Ritzman of Washington, D. C, and Jason of Mentone; and a sister, Catherine Wimer of Anaheim.
No services are planned. Interment will be in East Dyberry Cemetery in Dyberry Township, Pa. The Neptune Socitey in Riverside is handling arrangements.
FREDERICK V. JOHNSTON, 83, died Wednesday of complications of Alzheimer's disease at his home in Mentone. Born in Salina, Kan., Mr. Johnson lived in Mentone 25 years. Previously he lived in Redlands and China Lake. He was an architect for the U. S. government for 40 years.
During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army Air Forces. He was a pilot.
Mr. Johnston belonged to the Optimist Club and was a Boy Scout leader.
He was a Lutheran.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Bernice; two sons, James of Redlands and Mark of New Jersey; two grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy of Kansas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cortner Chapel in Redlands. Friends may call at the mortuary from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands.
DAVID EDWIN HIATT, 55, died Saturday at Riverside Community Hospital. Born in Chicago, Mr. Hiatt lived in Corona 15 years. He was a cardiology technician with Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
He was a member of the Olive Branch Community Church in Corona.
Mr. Hiatt is survived by his wife, Debi of Corona; two sons, Tyler and Michael, both of Corona; and a sister, Diane of Tennesse.

DARRYLE LAWRENCE MCGOWAN, 70, died Sunday of cancer at his Riverside home. Born in Clinton, Iowa, Mr. McGowan lived in Riverside 48 years. He was an administrative manager for 30 years at Wyle Laboratories in Norco before he retired in 1992.
Mr. McGowan served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Riverside where he served as a finance officer.
Mr. McGowan was a member of the American Legion in Corona.
He is survived by his wife, Angie; two daughters, Sandy Curl and Shannon Asam, both of Riverside; five sons, Daniel of Big Bear Lake, David of Mountain Center, and Darryel, Dennis, and Derek, all of Riverside; 16 grandchildren; a brother, Phil of Texas; and a sister, Doris Gay of Moreno Valley.
His body was donated to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Private graveside services will be at a later date at Riverside National Cemetery.

CAROLYN SORIA HERNANDEZ, 79, died May 21 at Riverside Community Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Riverside. She worked as a teacher's aide for Riverside Unified School District.
Mrs. Hernandez attended Riverside Poly High School.
She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Riverside.
Mrs. Hernandez is survived by her husband, Jacinto; three daughters, Alicia Chavez, Carole DeHaro and Martha, all of Riverside; a son, Jack of Riverside; 16 grandchildren, including Frances Quiroz, Regina Mayorga and B, whom she raised; 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elvira Gamboa of Indio; and three brothers, Fred Soria, Manuel Soria and Joe Soria, all of Riverside.

BRANDYN TREVILLISON PRIETO, 22, died May 17 in his car in Riverside. The cause of death is undetermined pending a coroner's report.
Born in Gardena, Mr. Prieto lived in Riverside eight years. He was a cosmetologist and makeup artist. He owned Studio B Hair Salon in Riverside.
He graduated from Arlington High School in 1998. He also graduated from Gino Robair Beauty College in Riverside.
Mr. Prieto is survived by his parents, Greg and Linda of Riverside; a brother, Brent of Riverside; his grandfather Ralph of Carson; a niece; and his girlfriend, Tanya Collins of Riverside.

PATRICIA EILEEN FONTAINE, 75, died of cancer Thursday at her Riverside home. Born in Cleveland, Mrs. Fontaine lived in Riverside 60 years. She worked for the Riverside Unified School District cafeteria service for approximately 30 years.
She received an associate's degree from RCC.
Mrs. Fontaine was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Riverside.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jared of San Jacinto; three sons, Donald Jr. of Riverside, Kevin of San Jacinto and David of Riverside; three granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.
