FLORENCE L. COTE, 70, died Tuesday at Miravilla Health Care Center in Cherry Valley. Born in Long Beach, Mrs. Cote lived in Cherry Valley 40 years. Previously she lived in San Bernardino 10 years. She was a homemaker and foster parent.

She is survived by a daughter, Wendy Nelson of Cherry Valley; two sons, Robert of Hemet and Larry of Arizona; four grandchildren; three sisters, Ina Lee Kelly of Yucaipa, Mary Ann Platt of Playa del Rey and Ola Mae Ellman of Cambria; and a brother, Bruce Southern of Cabazon.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Beaumont.

CHRIS KOSTY, 93, died Wednesday at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning. Born in Florina, Greece, Mr. Kosty lived in Beaumont 25 years. He worked for Hall-Mack as a machine operator for 20 years.

He is survived by two daughters, Katherine Roller of Whittier and Mona of Glendale; a son, John of Fountain Valley; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Emma Zawada and Eva Henley, both of Montana, and Katherine Kalainov of Iowa; and a brother, Victor of Montana.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont. Friends may call at the mortuary from 11:30 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Beaumont.

VYLAS IRENE WIRKUS, 74, died July 3 at her home. Born in Revillo, S.D., she lived in San Bernardino County 48 years, most recently in Redlands. She was a senior group supervisor for the San Bernardino County Probation Department. She worked for the department for 33 years.

She was a member of the Highland Congregational Church, the Women's Auxiliary L.O.E., the Women's American Legion Auxiliary and the Grans Roadrunner Club. She acquired the grant to establish the San Bernardino County "A-Team," a program which assisted troubled youth in leading productive lives, according to her family.

Mrs. Wirkus is survived by two daughters, Darlene Leiterman of Calimesa and Shirley James of Yucca Valley; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon today at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery.

JAMES MITCHELL QUARRY, 58, died Sunday of cancer at his home in Atascadero. Born in Berkeley, Mr. Quarry lived in Hemet nine years. He was a loan officer and appraiser for World Savings and Loan Association for 13 years.

Mr. Quarry was a Golden Glove boxer and the brother of popular heavyweight fighter Jerry Quarry.

James Quarry founded the Jerry Quarry Foundation in 1994 and made appearances with his brother in an effort to create a pension plan for retired and disabled boxers and sponsor research into cumulative brain injuries.

In 1993, the brothers moved to the San Jacinto Valley, where Jerry Quarry often trained. Before his death in 1999, Jerry Quarry suffered from dementia pugilistica, a brain disease caused by the accumulated trauma of his boxing career.

James Quarry is survived by his wife, Brandy; two sons, Eric of San Jose and David of Hemet; three daughters, Sonia Hathaway of Yucca Valley, Sabrina Porter of Florida and Selina Parrini of Hemet; nine grandchildren; his parents, Jack of Maryland and Arwanda of Atascadero; two brothers, Robert of Bakersfield and Michael of La Mirada; and four sisters, Brenda and Janet, both of Paso Robles, Dianna of Atascadero and Wilma Pearson of Bakersfield.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shafter Memorial Park in Shafter. Peters Funeral Home in Shafter is handling arrangements.

MABLE A. TOLIVER, 97, died Monday at Marriott Maple-Ridge in Hemet. Born in Goldendale, Wash., Mrs. Toliver lived in Hemet 27 years. She was a pharmacist at Roger Brothers Pharmacy in McMinnville, Ore., for 25 years.

She is survived by a son, Harold of Laguna Beach; a daughter, Rena of Monterey; two grandchildren; and a brother, Glenn Mallery of Washington.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. July 19 at McCabe Methodist Church in McMinnville. Interment will be in South Yamhill Cemetery in McMinnville. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet is handling arrangements.

MIRIAM LOUISE COLEMAN, 81, died Wednesday at Ramona Manor Nursing Center in Hemet. Born in Pullman, Wash., Mrs. Coleman lived in Hemet seven years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Coleman was a 1942 graduate of USC and a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was also a member of the California Republican Central Committee in Sacramento.

She is survived by her husband, Sam.

ANNA V. RAMSDALE, 84, died Thursday at The Village Healthcare Center in Hemet. Born in Altoona, Pa., Mrs. Ramsdale lived in Hemet 17 years. She worked as an assembler at Lockheed in Burbank for 25 years.

Mrs. Ramsdale was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Hemet.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis Sardella of Hemet and Thomas Sardella of Oregon; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be private. Burial will be in San Jacinto Valley Cemetery. McWane Family Funeral Home in Hemet is handling arrangements.

KATHRYN SCHLOSSER, 90, died Tuesday at Hemet Valley Medical Center. A native of Russia, Mrs. Schlosser lived in Hemet 42 years. She was a cook for 15 years.

Mrs. Schlosser was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Hemet. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary societies and the Italian Catholic Federation.

She is survived by a nephew, William Steinway of Georgia; and two nieces, Geraldine Roeder of Missouri and Judy Chapman of Colorado.

No services are planned. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet is handling arrangements.

LOUISE L. GASKINS, 77, died Tuesday at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City. Born in Fayetteville, Ark., Mrs. Gaskins lived in Nuevo 57 years. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, Bill of Perris; four daughters, Susan Blakley of Nuevo, Betty Rossetti of Upland, and Mary Underwood and Donna Zuniga, both of Perris; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Wilson of Tulare; and two brothers, Norman Wilson of Coalinga and Paul Wilson of Tulare.

WALTER ALLEN BITTNER, 78, died Tuesday at his home in Murrieta. A native of Anaheim, Mr. Bittner lived in Murrieta three years. He worked for Nyland Herd Construction Co. in Santa Ana for 47 years before he retired in 1988.

Mr. Bittner served in the Army one year.

He was a member of Emmanuel Christian Fellowship in Murrieta.

Mr. Bittner is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois; a daughter, Bonnie Perkins of Dana Point; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard of Texas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stout Family Funeral Home in Temecula. Friends may call at the mortuary from 5 until 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Temecula Cemetery.

ROWLAND C. LAWVER, 95, died of congestive heart failure March 28 at Ember Care in Perris. Born in Waddams Grove, Ill., Mr. Lawver lived in Sun City 22 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1924 until 1958 when he retired as a captain.

Mr. Lawver was a 1930 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.

He is survived by a daughter, Anne Hoffman of San Diego; a son, Philip of Torrance; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were April 18 at Riverside National Cemetery. Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City handled arrangements.

ROSE MARIE BOISE, 63, died Sunday at Valley Plaza Doctors Hospital in Perris. Born in Nashville, Mich., Mrs. Boise lived in Perris 12 years. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, Lonnie Goforth of Perris; three daughters, Sue Oberle and Alberta Goforth, both of Michigan, and Bessie McGuire of Washington; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Larry of Michigan; and a sister, Nancy Shellingbarger of Michigan.

Services will be at 9 a.m. July 20 at Mrs. Boise's home. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Perris is handling arrangements.

RUTH BELLE ROBINSON, 73, died July 8 of pancreatic cancer at her Perris home. Born in Houston, Mrs. Robinson lived in Perris 33 years. She worked in food service at Perris Elementary School for 15 years before she retired in 1984.

Mrs. Robinson was a former grand matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Bethel AME Church, both in Perris.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Willie; five daughters, Carla Heyward and Maymie Chandler, both of Perris, Beverly Brumfield of Oakland, Barbara Smith of Mountain View and Bridgette Williams of Sacramento; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita Terry of Los Angeles.

HERBERT YOUNG, 67, died Saturday of cancer at his home in Redlands. Born in Fresno, Mr. Young lived in Redlands 36 years. He worked for the San Bernardino County Probation Department for 32 years, most recently as director.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland, Redlands Elks 583 and the American Legion.

Mr. Young served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; a son, Herbert Jr. of Yucaipa; a daughter, Connie Stuursma of Yucaipa; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Gerry Royster of Oregon.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Riverside National Cemetery. Hughes Funeral Chapel in Yucaipa is handling arrangements.

IGNACIO S. SOTO, 44, died Monday of injuries suffered in a tractor accident in Sunnyside, Wash. Born in Jalisco, Mexico, he lived in San Bernardino 20 years. He was a farm laborer.

Mr. Soto is survived by his wife, Maria; his mother, Aurora of San Bernardino; two brothers, Arturo of Washington and Hugo of San Bernardino; and three sisters, Aurora, Veronica and Elizabeth, all of San Bernardino.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Funeraria Preciado Funeral Home in San Bernardino. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Interment will be in Panteon Municipal de Cocula in Jalisco, Mexico.

ROBERT EARL MASON, 65, died Sunday at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Born in Monticello, Miss., he lived in Rancho Cucamonga 16 years. He formerly lived in Chino 10 years and in Riverside 10 years. He owned Mason Micro Computer Consultants for 15 years before he retired this year.

He formerly worked as a computer systems analyst for General Dynamics in Pomona for 10 years and for Perkin-Elmer in Pomona for four years.

He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor's degree in computer information systems.

He served with the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Mr. Mason was active with the Pomona Chapter of the NAACP. He attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pomona and Loveland Church in Fontana.

Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Fay; two daughters, Danna of Georgia and Natalie of San Bernardino; a grandchild; three brothers, Alvin and Kelly, both of Riverside, and Atlas of Texas; and a sister, Marjorie of Mississippi.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Grove Community Church, formerly Victoria Community Church, in Riverside. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery. Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside is handling arrangements.

FLORENCE ELSIE AMEY, 67, died July 6 at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster. Born in Philadelphia, she lived in Fontana for 17 years before she moved to Pearblossom a year ago. She was a custodian for Courtyard Apartments in Fontana for 12 years before she retired in 1997.

Mrs. Amey is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Richard Fisher of Santee and Harold Fisher of New Jersey; three daughters, Cheryl Jimenez of Fontana and June Traynor and Debbie Hamilton, both of Nevada; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, William Buffington of New Jersey; and four sisters, Jessie Downey, Celia Siegrsit of New Jersey, Clara Hays of Florida and Kathy Wita of Florida.

TORIBIO S. PICENO, 77, died June 25 at his home in Highland. Born in Cucamonga, Mr. Piceno lived in San Bernardino County 39 years, most recently in Highland. He was a transmission specialist for 19 years.

He is survived by his wife, Estela; three daughters, Olivia Hoyt of Riverside, Francisca of Banning and Irene Salazar of Sanger; and a son, Sergio of Highland.

PATRICIA A. McMINN, 61, died June 28 at St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino. Born in Los Angeles, she lived in Fontana 15 years. She was a homemaker.

She attended the Carpenter's House church in Fontana.

Mrs. McMinn is survived by her husband, Sammie Newsome; a brother, Clyde of New Hampshire; and a sister, Caroline Bolanos of Rancho Cucamonga.

EDWARD J. OPERINI, 77, died Sunday at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center. Born in Pittsburgh, he lived in Fontana 50 years. He was proprietor of Big Operini Motors in Fontana. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a corporal.

He was a parishioner of Resurrection Catholic Church in Fontana. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge, both in Fontana, and the Italian American Club.

Mr. Operini is survived by his wife, Loretta; two sons, Edward and Robert, both of Fontana; three daughters, Mary Lu Nuccio of La Jolla, Joan Petruzzi of Palm Springs and Alice Moore of Del Mar; three grandchildren; a brother, John of Florida; and a sister, Lillian Casoli of Pennsylvania.

BARBARA ANNE COLE, 69, died Tuesday of complications of leukemia at Riverside Community Hospital. Born in Atlanta, Mrs. Cole lived in Riverside 10 years. Previously she lived in San Bernardino and Colton a total of 50 years. She worked for the Riverside Police Officers Association for five years. Previously she worked for Bank of America for 27 years.

She attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles.

Mrs. Cole was a member of the PEO and Wesley United Methodist Church in Riverside. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society and Leukemia Society.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; two sons, Mark of San Dimas and Steven of Running Springs; seven grandchildren; a brother, Earnest Harris of Idaho; and a sister, Caroline Thomson of Thousand Oaks.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. Interment will be private. The Neptune Society in Riverside is handling arrangements.

VICKI LYNN ANGULO, 54, died June 28 at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, she lived in Rialto 20 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Angulo is survived by a son, Jeffrey Hendrickson of Livermore; four daughters, Shirley Lopez of Fontana, Misty Hendrickson of Anaheim and Candice and Shauna Hendrickson, both of Rialto; two brothers, Harry and Blain Davis, both of Nevada; and a sister, Carolyne Lee of Nevada.

AUDREY M. TAPPAN, 46, died July 2 at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Born in Connecticut, she lived in Ontario 22 years. She worked in customer service for Hertz Rental Cars.

Mrs. Tappan is survived by her husband, Michael; two sons, Michael of Fontana and Jeffrey of Ontario; and two brothers, Hilton Bernard of Oroville and Robert Bernard of San Jose.

JESUS MONSIVAIS FLORES, 51, died July 5 at his home in Corona. Mr. Flores was a lifelong resident of Corona. He was a welder for Hayden Corp. in Corona for five years.

He served in the National Guard.

Mr. Flores is survived by a son, Jesse of Corona; a daughter, Teresa of Corona; his mother and stepfather, Lydia and Richard Perez of Corona; and five sisters, Bertha Lewis of Rialto, Martha of Riverside, Josie Borg of Bakersfield, Esther Avalos of San Diego and Linda Wade of Ontario.

PAUL DANIEL OWEN, 37, died Wednesday at Corona Regional Medical Center. Born in Garden Grove, Mr. Owen lived in Corona 15 years.

He is survived by his parents, Ernest and Grace of Corona; a brother, Ernest of Nevada; and six sisters, Ina Garver of Oregon, Tret Willoughby of Upland, Lois Odegard of Washington, Edith Stere of Montana, Helen Nethercot of Corona and Esther Turrentine of Ontario.

JENNIFER RENEE HERNANDEZ, 34, was found dead June 28 in an orange grove off Monroe Street in Riverside. The cause of death is undetermined pending a coroner's report. Born in Lancaster, Miss Hernandez lived in Riverside 33 years. She worked in food service for 10 years.

Miss Hernandez is survived by a daughter, Caryn Fredborg; four brothers, Phillip Conti and Joe Conti, both of Riverside, Dana Clawson of Dinuba and Steve De Anda of Corona; four sisters, Cecelia of Riverside, Winnifer of Corona, Delia Clawson of Dinuba and Dorothy Zeholla of Arkansas.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today at Rubidoux-Jurupa Valley Mortuary. Interment will be private.

DAE'SHAWN EARL JAMES EVANS, 21, died Friday at Riverside Community Hospital after he was shot in Rubidoux the previous day. Mr. Evans was a lifelong resident of the Riverside area. He was a custodian at Nueva Vista High School in Rubidoux.

He graduated from Jurupa Valley High School in 1998.

Mr. Evans is survived by his parents, Dakota Whitney and Dennis, both of Riverside; five brothers, Ray Butler, Billy White, Dennis, Jermaine and Branden, all of Riverside; three sisters, Tasha, Daniell and LaQuan, all of Riverside; his grandparents, Claude of Colorado and Mel White of Ontario; and his domestic partner, Connie Salitre of Rubidoux.

ANNA MAY BRUCE-MADISON, 62, died Sunday of multiple myeloma at Magnolia Rehab and Nursing Center in Riverside. Born in Springfield, Mass., Ms. Bruce-Madison lived in Riverside 16 years. She did both data entry and showroom support for Krause Sofa Factory in Brea.

Ms. Bruce-Madison was a member of Wind of the Spirit Worship Center in Riverside.

She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Madison, Dorothy Madison and Jacqueline Madison, all of Riverside; seven grandchildren; two brothers, George Bruce and Michael Bruce, both of Massachusetts; and a sister, Sandra White of Massachusetts.

WILMA JEAN "WILLY" BORDWELL, 65, died July 5 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield. Born in Homestead, Pa., Mrs. Bordwell lived in the Riverside area 43 years before she moved to Bear Valley Springs seven years ago. She was a banking supervisor before she retired. Previously she was a retail manager at Second Nature in downtown Riverside.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons, Kurt Bellman and Craig Bellman, both of Riverside; a grandchild; a sister, Phyllis Kishbaugh of Arizona; and her grandmother, Cordelia of Laguna Niguel.

ROBERT COLEMAN KENDALL, 88, died Saturday at his San Dimas home. Born in Los Angeles, Pastor Kendall lived in Riverside 40 years. He was pastor at Charter Oak Lighthouse Church in Covina for 67 years.

He was ordained at Apostolic Church in Highland Park in 1940 .

He is survived by a daughter, Roberta Dalton of Riverside; five sons, Stephen of Grand Terrace, Wilbur of Covina, David of La Verne, Ronald of Hayfork and Jack R. of Glendora; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack W. of Glendora.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Mortuary in Riverside. Friends may call at the mortuary from 8:30 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park.

GARY L. KAHL, 62, died Monday of pulmonary fibrosis at his home in Mira Loma. Born in Illinois, Mr. Kahl lived in Mira Loma 13 years. He was a machinist for 25 years.

He served in the U. S. Army.

Mr. Kahl is survived by his wife, Carol; three daughters, Debra Dickerson and Julie, both of Illinois, and Brenda of Florida; three stepdaughters, Linda Gilbreth of Highland, Diane Bently of Oregon and Ann Arborgast of Corona; a son, Kurt of Illinois; two stepsons, David Jones of Placentia and Steve Steckbauer of West Covina; 13 grandchildren; and three nephews.

WILLIE ONEAL DEAN JR., 3, died Saturday at Riverside Community Hospital after a drowning accident in Pedley. Born in San Bernardino, Willie lived in Riverside three years.

He is survived by his parents, Willie Sr. of Riverside and Sherill Chavis of Texas; six brothers, Clarance and Andre Brown, both of Louisiana, and Kirt Johnson, Clyde, Lamar and Davelle Maiden, all of Texas; four sisters, Rosalind Brown, Johnetta Johnson and Kirtrina Chavis, all of Texas, and Faizah of Ontario; and his grandparents, Carrie England of Louisiana, Mavine Trammel of Downey, Leonard Johnson of San Mateo and Charles Trammel of Los Angeles.

JAMES THOMAS CRAIG, 73, died July 5 of pulmonary fibrosis at his home in Bremerton, Wash. Born in Akron, Ohio, Mr. Craig lived in Riverside 32 years until he moved to Bremerton a year ago. He was a custodian for 10 years and a food clerk for 10 years, both in Riverside, before he retired. He was a member of the United Food and Confection Workers Union in Riverside.

He attended University of Akron.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 until he was discharged in 1958 with the rank of captain.

Mr. Craig was a Cub Scout leader in Riverside. He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Ryoko; two sons, Scott of Riverside and James Jr. of Missouri; three daughters, Wendy Ruggles of Ohio, Laura of Riverside and Paula Huck of Washington; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Dorow of Ohio.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Riverside. Inurnment will be private. Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton is handling arrangements.

CAROL A. FLEMING GYORGYFALVY, 64, died Monday of a brain tumor at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore. Mrs. Gyorgyfalvy was born in Riverside, where she lived 19 years before she moved to Eugene, Ore. She was a junior high and high school physical education teacher in Eugene before she retired in 1992.

She received a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Colorado in 1960.

Mrs. Gyorgyfalvy is survived by her husband, George; a son, Martin of Oregon; a sister, Barbara Hunter Lopez of Laguna Beach; and an uncle, George Lindsay of Tiburon.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Bachelor's Pine Marten Lodge in Bend. Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home in Bend is handling arrangements.

THOMAS C. DOWNEY SR., 82, died June 28 at Riverside Community Hospital. Born in Rochelle, Ill., Mr. Downey lived in Riverside 26 years.He worked for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department for 15 years.

He was a volunteer with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

He served in the U. S. Army for a year.

Mr. Downey is survived by his wife, Marie; two stepdaughters, Susanne Wise of Riverside and Margaret Shelley of Victorville; a son, Thomas Jr. of Arroyo Grande; two stepsons, David Hoffman of Tujunga and John Benjamin of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Riverside National Cemetery. Inland Memorial in Riverside is handling arrangements.
