ROBERT ARTHUR HORNBY, 87, died Wednesday of a stroke at Asistencia Villa Rehabilitation and Care Center in Redlands. Born in Mapleton, Iowa, Mr. Hornby lived in Grand Terrace 33 years. He also lived in San Bernardino 12 years and Redlands 2 ½ years. He was an automobile mechanic for Buick dealerships until he retired in 1978.

He is survived by a daughter, Jan St. John of Dana Point; a son, Richard of Redlands; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, John of Minnesota.

Private family services are planned. Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands is handling arrangements.

EDDIE LEE HARPER, 54, died Monday of an aneurysm at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center. Born in San Bernardino, Mr. Harper lived in San Bernardino 36 years before he moved to Alabama 18 years ago.

He was a corrections officer for the California Department of Corrections for 10 years until he retired in 1984. After retirement, he was a campus security guard. He was a member of the National Education Association.

He was a Baptist and a Seventh-day Adventist.

Mr. Harper served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Alabama; two sons, Marcus of Alabama and Eddie of San Bernardino; a daughter, Sharon Harper-Logan of Illinois; three grandchildren; his mother, Lucinda of San Bernardino; three brothers, Steave, Manuel and Percy, all of San Bernardino; and two sisters, Carolyn of San Diego and Evonne of San Bernardino.

Services will at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark Baptist Church in San Bernardino. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Palms Chapel Mortuary in Fontana.

CLAYTON GORDON, 90, died Thursday at Community Convalescent Center in San Bernardino. A native of Riverside, he lived in Loma Linda five years.

Mr. Gordon is survived by a niece, Frances Boyd of Loma Linda.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside. Cortner Chapel in Redlands is handling arrangements.

EMMA L. ANSLEY, 86, died Thursday at Braswell's Ivy Retreat in Mentone. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, she lived in Mentone 40 years. She was a secretary for the U.S. government for 25 years.

Mrs. Ansley is survived by a sister, Bettye Richie of Fontana.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cortner Chapel in Redlands. Interment will be in Green Acres Cemetery in Bloomington.

MILDRED FRANCES CURTIS, 95, died Wednesday at Windcrest Regent Point in Irvine. Born in San Bernardino, Mrs. Curtis lived in San Bernardino many years. She was a homemaker.

She graduated from San Bernardino High School and Pomona College.

Mrs. Curtis organized the San Bernardino chapter of the Assistance League and was its first president. She was a member of the PTA and Community Chest, both in San Bernardino.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Jesse Jr.; three sons, Jesse III of Laguna Beach, Clyde of Los Angeles and Christopher of Point Richmond; a daughter, Suzanne Robinson of Irvine; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Private services are planned. Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino is handling arrangements.

LOIS LORRAINE LEDBETTER, 70, died Monday at her home in San Bernardino. Born in Charter Oak, Iowa, Mrs. Ledbetter lived in San Bernardino 46 years. She was a teacher for the San Bernardino City Unified School District for 32 years.

She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College.

Mrs. Ledbetter was a member of the Arrowhead Association for the Education of Young Children and a school representative for the Child Welfare Fund. She was a member of the Punta Banda Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Penlie; a daughter, Kristine Doan of San Diego; a son, Jeffrey of Oakland; a sister, Shirley Brandenburg of Yucaipa; and a brother, Robert Bohnker of Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino. Interment will be in Charter Oak Cemetery in Iowa.

ANTHONY J. RAGONE, 77, died Tuesday at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center. Born in Clairton, Pa., Mr. Ragone lived in Fontana 40 years. He was haberdasher for 40 years before he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha; a son, Anthony Jr. of Oceanside; a daughter, Marty of Riverside; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ingold Chapel in Fontana.

JOHN F. FUNDERBURG JR., 69, died Tuesday at his home in Wickenburg, Ariz. Born in Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Funderburg lived in San Bernardino from 1934 until 1969. He was an electrical contractor until he retired. He owned Black Hawk Electric Co.

Mr. Funderburg was a member of the San Bernardino Elks Lodge 836, the Sierra Club and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by a son, John III of San Diego; two daughters, Deborah Gifford of Palos Verdes Estates and Dorie Dege of Idaho; five sisters, Beverly Rainbolt of San Bernardino, Jacquline Lewis of Oregon, Yvonne Faulk of Washington, Nanette Webb of Midpines and Diane Deam of Arizona; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino. Friends may call at the mortuary from 10 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery in San Bernardino.

J.T. LYON, 88, died Nov. 27 of complications of pneumonia at St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino. Born in Oklahoma, Mr. Lyon lived in San Bernardino County 30 years, most recently in San Bernardino. He was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railway for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; a daughter, Sharon Fletcher of Colton; a stepson, Arthur Given of Yucaipa; a brother, Glade of Idaho; and a sister, Connie Andersen of Utah.

BUNTHOEUN "TIA" ENG, 15, died Monday at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton after he was shot in San Bernardino. Born in Silver Spring, Md., Bunthoeun lived in San Bernardino four years.

He was a sophomore at Rialto High School and a member of the Break Dancing Club.

Bunthoeun is survived by his parents, Eng Em and Heang Seng of San Bernardino; two sisters, Sina and Samnang, both of San Bernardino; and two brothers, Sopheap and Sopharn, both of San Bernardino.

Friends may call from 9 until 11 a.m. Sunday at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino. Graveside services will follow at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton.

FRANCES JEANETTE ADAMS, 76, died Tuesday at her home in Fontana. Born in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., Mrs. Adams lived in Fontana 47 years. She worked at Kaiser Steel for 31 years and Fontana High School for 11 years.

She is survived by a son, John of Newberry Park; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John McCance of Washington; and a sister, Margaret Petrie of Glendora.

RILEY F. BROWN, 83, died Nov. 30 at Braswell's Colonial Care in Redlands. Born in Vernon County, Mo., he lived in Redlands a year. He was a copper miner for 25 years and was a volunteer fireman.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Louise of Montana; a daughter, Mary Lou Colvin of Highland; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin of Missouri; and two sisters, Nancy Brown Mooney of Missouri and Mary June Simmons of Texas.

MARGARET "PAT" BRUNSWICK, 63, died Sunday of diabetes at Corona Regional Medical Center. Born in Spangler, Pa., Mrs. Brunswick lived in Norco 19 years. She was a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Norco for 20 years before she retired in 1995. Previously she worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Harbor City for six years.

She is survived by three sons, Gary and Jim, both of Norco, and Steve of Nebraska; a daughter, Cindy of Norco; two stepdaughters, Pam Burton of Virginia and Patty Lofton of Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; four brothers, William Kohl of Fremont, Stephen and Frank Mehal, both of Washington, and Regis Mehal of Wyoming; and a sister, Mary Littler of Washington.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norco. Cremation Society of Orange Coast in Orange is handling arrangements.

VIRGINIA LOUISE SCHANZ, 58, died Monday at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center in Riverside. Born in San Diego, Mrs. Schanz lived in Riverside 47 years. She worked for the Jurupa Unified School District as a school nurse, nursing coordinator for the district and the health coordinator for the district Head Start preschool program. She also taught Adult Education parenting classes, health education at UC Riverside and first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the American Red Cross. Previously she was a nurse at Riverside Community Hospital in 1964.

She graduated from Ramona High School in 1960. She received her bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1966 and her master's degree from the University of La Verne in 1981.

Mrs. Schanz was named School Nurse of the Year for Riverside and San Bernardino counties by the California School Nurses' Association in 1995. She was also named School Nurse of the Year by the Jurupa Unified School District in 1995 and School Nurse of the Year in California in 1996.

She was the chairperson of the Inland Empire School Nurses' Organization from 1991 until 1993 and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Mrs. Schanz is survived by her husband, Greg; a daughter, Suzanne Keeler of Lake Elsinore; a son, Scott of Riverside; two grandchildren; her mother, Louise Huckett Dunn of Irvine; and a sister, Joanne Johnson of San Diego.

Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Victoria Community Church in Riverside.

EVELYN LOUISE SEXTON, 68, died Tuesday of complications of asthma at her Mira Loma home. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Sexton lived in Mira Loma 41 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Sexton is survived by a daughter, Darlene Hidalgo of Riverside; four sons, Jerry and David, both of Mira Loma, and Michael and Mark, both of Riverside; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ginny Thompson and Marge Thorton, both of Ohio; and five brothers, Bill, Walter, Lewis, John and Jim Henry, all of Ohio.

CARLOS GONZALEZ JR., 62, died Tuesday at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center of a stroke. Born in El Paso, Texas, Mr. Gonzalez lived in Riverside 37 years. He was a project engineer for an advertising and printing business.

He is survived by his wife, Magdalena; two sons, Robert of Rancho Cucamonga and Carlos III of Riverside; two daughters, Patsy Thorne of Texas and Kathy Cabral of Riverside; and 13 grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Riverside. JOHN LEVARD McDONALD, 85, died Thursday of heart disease at Riverside Community Hospital. Born in Harrisburg, Ill., Mr. McDonald lived in Riverside 50 years. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1960 after 25 years of military service.

He received his master's degree in social sciences from UC Riverside.

Mr. McDonald taught special education classes at Val Verde and Alcott schools in Riverside until 1972 and auto mechanics at Riverside Community College.

He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Riverside and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Neka; three sons, John Jr. of Lake Tahoe, Edward of Nevada and Malvyn of San Diego; a daughter, Rosemarie Kerns of Riverside; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Seagrave and Linarose Davis, both of New Mexico.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Riverside. PAUL C. HARLOW, 65, died Sunday of cancer at his home in Riverside. Born in Kentucky, Mr. Harlow lived in Riverside 22 years. He worked for Rohr Industries in Riverside before he retired as a project manager in 1993.

He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Redlands.

Mr. Harlow served in the U. S. Navy for six years.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; a brother, Robert of West Virginia; and four sisters, Cathy Gregory of Virginia, Betty Mansfield and Sharon Strong, both of Indiana, and Caroline Smith of Santa Clara.

PAULETTE ELAINE LEAR-PARRISH, 56, died Wednesday of liver disease at her home in Riverside. Born in Gurnee, Ill., Mrs. Lear-Parrish lived in Riverside 30 years. She taught English as a second language at UC Riverside before she retired in 1996.

She received a bachelor's degree in English from UC Riverside in 1975. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa sorority.

Mrs. Lear-Parrish was a member of Riverside Art Alliance.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Parrish; two daughters, Kristin Vellandi of Irvine and Meridith Lear of Oakland; a son, Jack Lear of Yucaipa; five grandchildren; a brother, Charles Cain of Arizona; and two sisters, Martha Fravel of Virginia and Sheryl Shmidt of Missouri.

ROBERT T. BLACK, 77, died Wednesday of lung cancer at his home in Riverside. Born in Flora, Ind., Mr. Black lived in Riverside 26 years. He was a real estate broker and appraiser.

He served in the U. S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

Mr. Black was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Christy Shepard of Ohio and Sherry Shopoff of San Diego; five sons, Michael Crump of Solana Beach, Jeff, John and Robert, all of Ohio, and Paul of Riverside; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Rosemary Harris of Riverside.

MARY WALLACE, 85, died Tuesday at Riverside Community Hospital. Born in Yates Center, Kan., Mrs. Wallace lived in Riverside 22 years. She worked for Sears in Pomona for 30 years. She is survived by 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

JAMES J. STUFKOSKY SR., 77, died Wednesday at his home in Boulder City, Nev. Born in St. James, N. Y., Mr. Stufkosky lived in Riverside from 1958 until 1979. He served in the U. S. Air Force before he retired as a major. He served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He is survived by five daughters, Sheila Sanson of Arizona, Deidre Heersema of San Diego, Jody and Ann, both of Nevada, and Lisa Lyons of Idaho; two sons, James Jr. of Riverside and John of South Lake Tahoe; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Audrey Aringer of New Mexico and Sandy Dittman of New York; and a brother, Arthur of Chula Vista.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Palm Mortuary in Henderson, Nev. Friends may call at the mortuary from 11 a.m. until the service time. Interment will be private.

MARY LINNETTA POPOVICH, 39, died Wednesday of lupus at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center. Born in Bronx, N. Y., Mrs. Popovich lived in Riverside 16 years. She was a homemaker.

She served in the U. S. Marine Corps for eight years.

Mrs. Popovich is survived by her husband, Robert; her mother and stepfather, Charlene and Allen Thompson of Louisiana; and five brothers, Kevin and Bryan James and Gary, David and Andrew Thompson, all of Louisiana.
