Fit only for Spandex
· This letter is in response to the Lisa Liddane article on survival guidelines at the gym, November 20.
I have to say that I totally agreed with the gym-goers' disgust with other gym members who have poor hygiene, rude behaviors, and lazy attitudes. Furthermore, an area that was not covered in the article that truly irritates me is men and women who act as though the gym is some sort of social event.
You know the ones that I am talking about. The fake-bake, silicone-filled, steroid-popping, two-sizes-too-small-outfit-wearing, men and women who cram the local fitness clubs with nothing more in mind than trying to impress everyone. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a meat market rather than in a gym.
Look, if they're that desperate for attention, why don't they try the local night club scene. There they will find plenty of other vain, egocentric individuals who are dying to tell them all about their life, much like themselves, how perfect.
Do us all a big favor: Leave the gym to those individuals who actually care more about their health, rather than who they can impress with a tight pair of Spandex.

A boy's death
· A boy of 15 is dead after a terrible industrial accident. Who is to blame and who is to be held accountable?
Yes, the company that hired him illegally both from age and residency status issues should be fully investigated and punished for any work, labor or safety violations. For example, what safety training was Esteban given? Was he even paid minimum wage as the law requires? Do they employ other underage workers as well?
But his parents bear much responsibility for his death as well. Whatever their status, they should have known or could easily have found information that Esteban could legally attend school up here regardless of his status.
After all, they managed to find a lawyer quickly enough who then advised them to not answer any questions about their son's death. . . .

Correction
· A Wednesday letter from Jan Andersen should have read that seniors are, as she wrote, affected (not afflicted) by lower interest rates, less dividends, lower stock value.
