Michael Stanley Sawcow, 60, and John Huey Honore, 66, both of Moreno Valley, were ordered Monday to stand trial on bank robbery charges and attempted murder following a preliminary hearing in Riverside County Superior Court in Riverside.
They were arrested Sept. 6, 2000, after allegedly fleeing a Redlands credit union that had just been robbed of more than $18,000, according to court testimony.
Police were waiting for two men's car as they drove toward their home off Pigeon Pass Road in Moreno Valley. Sawcow was wounded when he allegedly pointed a handgun at two police officers, who then fired 11 shots at the car.
Honore, who was driving, was uninjured as he parked the car in his sister's driveway, two blocks from the men's home.
Police found $18,210 in the car's trunk. A loaded .22-caliber handgun was found next to a rear tire of the vehicle.
Sawcow is charged with five bank robberies, plus the attempted murder of two sheriff's deputies. Honore is also charged with the attempted murder counts, and the Redlands holdup.
Both men will be arraigned on the counts Feb. 13. in the Riverside courtroom.
