65th Assembly seat

Lawrence B. Froelich's touting of Bill Batey's "right" qualifications for election to the Legislature's 65th Assembly seat -- letter, January 25 -- failed to specify Mr. Batey's qualifications other than the fact that he has worked all his life for what he has. That puts Mr. Batey into the same category as the millions of other people who have worked all their lives for what they have, not necessarily a superior qualification that would induce me to consider him as my representative in Sacramento.

In all the Moreno Valley City Council meetings I have attended, I have been less than impressed with Mr. Batey's performance as a legislator. There are seven other candidates from which to make a choice in the upcoming election; Mr. Batey does not rate anywhere near the top on this list, in my opinion.

GEORGE ALBANESE

Moreno Valley

I find it very hard to believe that Russ Bogh, a candidate who campaigns as a "conservative Republican," knows how to reach across party lines at all. Personally I choose Ray Quinto, someone who doesn't put across a divisive message like Bogh.

Ray Quinto has given so many years of his life to our country and to our community. He is the type of candidate we need representing us in the 65th AD. I would think your editorial would have come to the same conclusion, but then again, you didn't know whether the election was on February 6 or February 9.

MIKE KENNEDY

Riverside

(Election Day will be February 6.)
