Two separate accidents, one of which was a fatal, tied up roads and freeways late Monday afternoon in Southwest Riverside County.
The fatality was reported at about 11:17 a.m. on Mission Trail, just south of Bundy Canyon Road in Wildomar. According to California Highway Patrol officers at the scene, a pickup truck and a delivery truck collided head-on, killing the driver of the pickup.
As of early Monday afternoon, authorities were trying to clear the wreckage, which forced them to close Mission Trail in that area.
At about 11:15 a.m., just before the Wildomar accident was reported, the CHP said a large truck struck a van in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15, near the interchange with Murrieta Hot Springs Road. A Sig alert was issued for the stalled traffic at 11:24 a.m., and lifted at 1:06 p.m.
The CHP was investigating both incidents.
